Created within the PACT Act of 2022, the Camp Lejeune Justice Act opened the first-ever legal pathway for veterans, civilians, and family members to file lawsuits against the federal government for toxic water exposure at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune between 1953 and 1987. Nearly one million people were exposed to contaminated drinking water during this period — one of the worst water contamination events in U.S. history. The legal claim pathway is completely separate from VA disability benefits and does not affect VA benefit eligibility. Administered by the Navy and Department of Justice.
