Service Women's Action Network (SWAN)

The only national organization advocating for and supporting both currently serving service women and women veterans, regardless of rank, branch, or years of service. Founded in 2007 by women veterans struggling to get VA claims approved, incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2009. Early work established that post-traumatic stress resulting from sexual assault should be recognized by VA the way combat stress is — a change that reshaped MST claims. Today combines legislative and policy advocacy on combat integration, harassment and assault, reproductive health care, and veterans benefits with direct support: one-on-one case management, VA claims navigation, mental health and housing referrals, vetted pro bono legal referrals from military law experts, and a confidential 24/7 emergency assistance hotline at 888-502-8755. Programs are designed and led by women veterans.
