Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing

Founded in 2005 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center by retired Navy Captain Ed Nicholson — the nation's leading nonprofit using fly fishing as therapeutic intervention for veterans. More than 7,000 veteran participants actively healing annually across 45 states, supported by nearly 4,000 volunteers. Programs include fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying, and rod building — beginner to advanced. All equipment and fishing trips provided at no cost. VA MOU and DoD hospital partnerships enable direct referrals as therapy. A specific commitment to women veterans is woven into the program design. Receives no government funding.
